How to Change Scales from KG to Stone
Step-by-step instructions for Salter, Withings, Renpho, Fitbit and analogue dials. Takes less than a minute.
The Quick Answer
On most digital scales, turn the scale over and press the small UNIT button until the display reads in stone and pounds (shown as st:lb or st/lb). On smart scales, change the weight unit in the companion app under profile or device settings.
Tip: if your scale shows something like "11:06", that means 11 stone 6 pounds, not 11.06 stone. The number after the colon is leftover pounds (0-13).
Instructions by Brand
Salter
Turn the scale over. Press the small UNIT or MODE button on the underside until the display shows st:lb. Some models cycle kg → lb → st.
Analogue Salter dials show both kg and st/lb scales; just read the outer ring.
Withings (Body / Body+)
Open the Withings app → tap Profile → scroll to Units → set Weight to st/lb. Sync the scale to apply.
The scale screen updates after the next weigh-in.
Renpho
Open the Renpho Health app → Me tab → Settings → Unit → choose st:lb. Weigh again to see the new unit.
Historical data converts automatically in the app.
Fitbit Aria
Fitbit app → profile picture → Aria scale → Units → select Stones/Pounds. Step on the scale to refresh.
Aria Air: change units in the Fitbit app under the device settings.
Eufy / generic smart
Companion app → profile or device settings → weight unit → st/lb. If no app, look for a UNIT button under the scale.
Budget scales almost always have a physical unit button underneath.
Weight Watchers scales
Press the UNIT button on the front or underside to toggle between lb, kg, and st:lb.
WW scales are made for the UK market, so st:lb is always included.
Analogue (Dial) Scales
Traditional dial scales usually have two scales printed on the dial: kilograms on one ring and stone/pounds on the other. You do not need to change anything; just read the stone scale. If your dial only shows kilograms, convert the reading: divide kg by 6.35 to get stone, or use our stone to kg converter in reverse via the kg to stone converter.
To zero an analogue scale, step off and turn the small wheel or dial (usually at the base) until the needle points at zero before weighing.
Why Stone Feels More Natural
Most Britons track weight in stone because changes feel meaningful: losing "half a stone" is a clear milestone, while "3.2 kg" feels abstract. If you are starting a weight-loss journey, read our NHS-guided plan for losing a stone, and check your healthy range on the ideal weight chart in stone.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I change my scales from kg to stone?
Most digital scales have a unit button underneath or in the settings menu. Press it to cycle through kg, lb, and st/lb. On smart scales, change the unit in the companion app instead.
Why do my scales only show kg?
Many scales ship with kilograms as the default. Check for a small UNIT button on the underside, or open the scale's app and look under profile or device settings.
How do I change a Fitbit scale to stone?
Open the Fitbit app, tap your profile picture, then your Aria scale, and change the units setting to stone/pounds. The scale display updates on the next weigh-in.
How do I read an analogue scale in stone?
Analogue dials are usually marked in kg on one scale and stone/lb on another. Read the stone scale directly, or convert: divide kg by 6.35 for stone.
Do Withings scales support stone?
Yes. In the Withings app, go to your profile settings and set the weight unit to st/lb. The change applies to both the app and the scale display.
