Doctor’s Note
Dr Muhammad Usman, MBBS
12.5 stone is a weight that illustrates well why I always insist on knowing a patient’s height before commenting on their weight. Two patients at 12.5 stone sitting in front of me could have a BMI of 24 or a BMI of 29, depending on whether they are 6ft 2in or 5ft 6in. The number alone tells me very little. What I look for alongside it is waist circumference, blood pressure, blood sugar trends, and how the patient reports feeling. Those markers give a far more complete picture than the scale reading.
